MIS in use, at your work and home.

Knowing that MIS is used all around us today, how is it used and how can I apply it and appreciate it in my work or even at home? I have being working in a payroll department for more than fifteen years. I have worked with computers to enter data on employee's financial record from when I started to present over the fifteen years and I have seen the development of MIS in payroll over the years. When I first started working in the Payroll Department, there were payrecord cards to manually enter information on each employee, this is a tedious task. There was also a computer to enter any changes of the employee's salary. For example, an employee may receive an increase in salary or a change in deduction such as a new insurance plan. Every month there are changes to be made in the payrecord card and in the computer. After the changes are made on the computer, it is saved on a disk and manually carried to another building where all the employee's information is stored on larger computers and the disk is used to change information on the system. A printout is then collected and sent back to the Payroll Deparment with all the employees employed in that organization with all changes to their respective salaries. The printout is then used to compare manually with the payrecord card to check for accuracy of the changes and to balance the payrecord card which should correspond with the printout. This process of payroll was very labourous.

Now the payroll system in the Payroll Department has been improved and there is no longer to used disk and moving information manually from one building to the next. All information, changes to be made on an employee's salary are made on a (MIS) called (IHRIS) Integrated Human Resource Information System. On the (IHRIS) there is all the information of the organization's employees salary and employment information. A payslip can be generated and printed, and the information is easily accessable. There is however the tedious task of entering the emloyee's salary information on a payrecord card. Maybe someday there maybe no need for manual records.

At home, MIS is used on my smart phone to enter events and appointments, a reminder is then given via a popup screen and tone on the day I have the appointment, or event. Also, I use my computer to access online banking, and to login and view my savings account and pay my bills. There is no longer the time of spending a long time in the bank standing in long lines. My time is spent more wisely.

I am sure you can identify the use of (MIS) in your life.
